Location:

Crookston is located in Northwest Minnesota specifically in Western Polk County.  Crookston is located on US Highway 2 and is close proximity to Grand Forks, ND and Fargo ND.  Crookston is 30 miles southeast of Grand Forks and 70 miles north of Fargo.

Climate:

Crookston has a varying climate that offers mild summers and cold winters. The  average high through out the summer months is about 80 degrees and the average low is about 55. With a sharp turn downward, the winter months offer an average high of  about 18 degrees and an average low of -4 degrees.  The average annual precipitation is about 21 inches. For more information on Crookston weather click here

Schools:

Crookston Public schools provides education for children ranging from K-12. Crookston consists of three elementary schools; Washington, Lincoln and Highland.  The elementary schools serve children from K-7 grade. Crookston high school serves grades 8-12.  The Crookston school district  provides a wide range of services for children with special needs including speech therapy, learning disabilities and special education. The Crookston school district also provides a wide variety of programs including business management, construction trades, technology, metals and foods. Location

Detroit Lakes is located at the junction on US Highway 59 and US Highway 10. Detroit Lakes is only 45 miles east of the Fargo Moorhead area

Climate

Detroit Lakes offers great weather all year round providing many activities in conjunction with the area lakes. The average high temperature through out the summer 76 degrees; while the average low is a mild 53 degrees. The winter offers some cooler weather with average highs and lows of 20 and 0. Schools

The School District serves over 3,200 students, from pre-school through Grade 12. In addition to the traditional K-12 program, the District operates a community education program, a pre-school program, and serves as host district for area school’s special education handicapped students. The School District also participates in a regional cooperative service agreement for services varying from low incidence special education needs to specialized high tech computer services.

Detroit Lakes’ education system has been ranked as one of the finest in Minnesota. Seventy-five percent (75%) of school graduates attend post secondary schools following graduation.
The Detroit Lakes School District is one of 108 schools nationwide to offer the International Baccalaureate Program, a rigorous college prepatory program in which students may earn college credits after passing an international exam. The Detroit Lakes School system includes three elementary schools, a middle school, and a senior high school. Students throughout the District are bussed to various schools on one of the District’s 30 bus routes.

Minnesota State Community and Technical College:

MSCTC – formerly Fergus Falls Community College and the Northwest Technical College campuses of Detroit Lakes, Moorhead, and Wadena – offers more than 100 educational programs and online learning opportunities for students.

Location

Thief River Falls is located on US Highway 59 and Highway 32 and Highway 1. Thief River Falls is the county seat for Pennington County in northwest Minnesota. Thief River Falls is located in close proximity to Grand Forks; 40 miles northeast.

Climate

Thief River Falls has a typical northern climate with cold winters and warm summers. The average low and high during the winter months is -1 and 17 degrees. The summer months take a direct turn around averaging 52 degrees for a low and 78 degrees for a high. The average annual precipitation is about 20 inches.

Public Schools

The Thief River Falls offers several opportunities in the community providing classes for people of all ages. Thief River Falls houses Independent School district #564. The public school district offers an elementary school, middle school and high school. Challenger Elementary offers education from Preschool to 5th grade. Franklin middle school houses 6th – 8th grade and Lincoln High School provides for 9th – 12th grade. Thief River Falls also offers alternative education through Northwest Area Learning Center.

Cornerstone Christian School offers parochial education from preschool – 12 grade. St. Bernards Catholic School also offers parochial education.

Northland Community & Technical College is a comprehensive community and technical college with campuses in Thief River Falls, MN and East Grand Forks, MN.
